Who Are the 2016 Lambda Literary Awards Finalists?

The 28th Annual Lambda Literary Awards, also affectionately known as or the "Lammys," have revealed the list of finalists for this year's ceremony, rewarding excellence in LGBT literature.

From a record 933 submissions (up from 818 last year), a shortlist of finalists was announced on Tuesday, showcasing long-established and new LGBT publishers, as well as emerging publish-on-demand writers.

Among the standouts this year, Carrie Brownstein's memoir, Hunger Makes Me a Modern Girl, and Truman Capote's previously unpublished Early Stories received accolades. The Broadway smash musicalFun Home received a nomination in the LGBT Drama category for its music and lyrics.

Lilian Faderman's ambitious history of the gay rights movement, The Gay Revolution: The Story of the Struggle, Hasan Namir's novel on gay muslim lives in post-US war Iraq, God in Pink, and French writer Virginie Despentes's epic lesbian thriller, Apocalypse Baby, are also some of our favorite reads this year.
