"Say Our Names" by Lilly Wachowski
Award-winning filmmaker Lilly Wachowski, who's best known for writing The Matrix, created a series of 27 painted portraits to honor the trans women killed in 2016. Titled "Say Our Names," Wachowski's paintings are colorful tributes based on photos of the victims and designed to bring the subjects to life.
A trans woman herself, the filmmaker incorporated blues and pinks from the trans flag throughout, and did thorough investigations of every person featured, though little public information was available for several of the victims.
