Robin Williams' death has shocked fans since his suicide seemingly came out of nowhere. Even though The Crazy Ones, the actor's CBS series, was canceled after one season, Williams was still in demand in Hollywood. This year alone, Williams is featured in four new films, including another sequel to Night at the Museum. His final movie is expected to premiere sometime in 2015.
Of the films expected to be released this year, Boulevard stars Williams as a married man who confronts his sexuality late in life. The comedian's quiet performance is said to tap into the same loneliness he delivered in One Hour Photo. While this is certainly not the first time Williams played gay on screen, it's certainly the most disturbing.
"This is one of the kindest characters Williams has ever played, which makes his self-imposed turmoil -- the consequence of not wanting to hurt anyone, least of all his wife -- all the more tragic," Peter Debruge writes in a review for Variety.
While Boulevard premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival, it does not have a distribution deal as of now, making it unclear when the film will see a wide release.
On Tuesday -- a week after his death -- the film's producers, Monica Aguirre Diez Barroso and Mia Chang, remembered the late actor in a statement they released:
"Like so many around the world who have been saddened by the news of Robin Williams' passing--we are devastated to have lost such a brilliant entertainer and an even kinder human being. We are honored to be among those privileged to have worked with him. We're so very proud of his performance in Boulevard, and will remember him for his amazing talent and beautiful heart."
