After electro-dance super group Gravy Train!!!--which included Brontez Purnell and Hunx and His Punx frontman Seth Bogart--was no more, Purnell started releasing pop songs as Younger Lovers. The first album from the San Francisco Bay Area artist, Sugar In My Pocket (now available from SouthPaw Records), and we have the chance to share the video for "Get Up, Get Up" here.
We asked Purnell (who Out last featured in its 2012 Hot List) what was up with the skater vibe in this female-directed video (that does feature some straight guys) and he explained:
"Back when I was a teen fag--like 900 years ago (in the '90s)--I had this dream of an all-fag skate crew (although these days I would be more inclusive about the word "fag"-i.e. fags of all genders and orientations). In said crew, we would get wasted and skate around all night to secret spots and new destinations. We would not emasculate each other with the hierarchy of who could ollie or not. We would skate for fun or not at all. It would be rad. I eventually started getting laid, so I started skateboarding less and I never fulfilled my dream. So, at 31, I did a video about it. Yes! I used some straight boys. Who? I'll never tell!."
