In their first musical offering since their wildly popular album, The Heist, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis lend their talents to Fences' (nee Christopher Mansfield) latest single, "Arrows."
"Fences is a good friend," said Macklemore in a release, "He's fucked up in the same way that I'm fucked up. Because of that, our lives relate beyond the music. I've always admired his talent for illustrating with words and evoking imagery. We've made a bunch of stuff together over the years and this here song about Arrows is my favorite one we've done."
Fences supplies a folky wisp of a voice to the verses and chorus, and Macklemore lends his familiar style of rap to the bridge and conclusion, as much passion behind his lyrics as ever.
Macklemore fans may recognize Fences from his appearance on "Otherside Remix" from 2011, or his writing credit on The Heist's opener, "Ten Thousand Hours."
The dauntless duo will play on the main stage of San Francisco's Outside Lands Festival and will be joined by Fences to perform "Arrows." After that the "Thrift Shop" pair head across the pond to play a string of European music festivals.
Arrows is out now on Elektra Records.
