There was a bright side to Broadway's Kinky Boots going dark May 8-13, while television network Univision utilized the Al Hirschfeld Theatre for their upfront presentations.
Cast members Eugene Barry-Hill and Timothy Ware, who met 10 years ago in a touring production, got married and went on a honeymoon during their paid vacation from the empowering musical.
Based on the 2005 movie of the same name, Kinky Boots stars Tony-winning out actor Billy Porter -- who enjoyed his hiatus in Miami -- as Lola, a drag queen who saves a shoe factory on the verge of bankruptcy. Written by Harvey Fierstein with songs by Cyndi Lauper, the show won a total of six Tonys, including Best Musical, Best Choreography for Jerry Mitchell, and Best Score for Lauper.
