On Thursday, MTV announced the nominees for the 31st annual Video Music Awards. Among this year's nominees are a few queer performers, including Angel Haze, Sam Smith, and Sia.
Sia is up for the grand prize with "Chandelier" nominated for Video of the Year. The video, which featured a stunning visual performance from 11-year-old dancer Maddie Ziegler, is also up for Best Choreography. Sia is also nominated alongside Haze for Best Video With a Social Message for "Battle Cry."
Meanwhile, Smith, who is having a breakout year thanks to his history-making debut record, In the Lonely Hour, is up for two awards. Smith's "Stay With Me" will battle it out with Pharrell Williams and John Legend for Best Male Video and Artist to Watch.
Among the other nominees include Beyonce earning eight nominations -- the most of any artist this year -- and is up for Video of the Year, while Iggy Azalea follows closely behind with seven. Arcade Fire, who recently stunned with their video for "We Exist," is up for one technical award for "Afterlife." And rounding out the favorites is Lorde, who is up for Best Female Video and Best Rock Video.
MTV will hand out the awards live from California on August 24.
