And four other things RiRi’s been up to…
Earlier this week, a recording of Rihanna covering Madonna's 1990 hit "Vogue" began making the rounds. According to the UK's Attitude, the cover is from 2008 and served as a guide track for a live performance.
With everything going on in entertainment and world events, Rihanna may have [gasp] slipped off your radar for a hot minute. But don't worry, we've compiled a handy cheat sheet of the latest Rihanna news.
1. Her new album's probably called #R8.
So, in her infinite creativity, Rihanna has reportedly decided to name her upcoming eighth studio album #R8. The Barbadian pop sensation hinted back in late 2014 that her follow up to 2012's Unapologetic was coming down the pipeline. She tweeted pics from the studio back in October and put out a snippet of a song called "Kiss It Better" in November. She also posted a pic of this totally chill granny with the caption: "The 'Where is #R8?' starter pack." And so it began...
2. Sam Smith might be on it.
The latter half of 2014 was basically the semi-year of Sam Smith. The UK crooner rose to pop superstardom and soon everybody wanted a piece of him--and everybody apparently includes Rihanna. Smith told Entertainment Weekly "I'm personally really excited for Rihanna's album. I know some stuff about that record that no one knows." So either the two are really close pen pals or he's featured on #R8.
3. So might this track.
When it comes to her album, Rihanna plays it close to the vest. She's been teasing us with snippets and hints and maybe posibilities, gaslighting us and only whetting our appetites. Titled "World Peace," this demo, which may be a track on #R8, hit the Internet after the holidays. While we can't yet speculate to the overall architecture of Rihanna's upcoming eighth album, this very well could be a cornerstone of the LP.
4. If imitation is the highest form of flattery, then this guy should make RiRi feel tickled pink.
Though RiRi isn't exactly squarely in the public eye at the moment, that doesn't mean her fans have forgotten about her. Say hello to Mina Gerges, a college student from our friendly neighbor to the north who has done a bang up job recreating some of Rihanna's most glamorous looks. Not only is he an expert mimic, but also a master costume maker. The kid makes everything himself. Check him out on Instagram here.
