Gay porn star, Colby Keller is now the new face of Vivienne Westwood's SS16 campaign, "Mirror the World." Shot in Venice by photographer Juergen Teller, the campaign was aimed at raising awareness on environmental conservation through couture. In an interview with NewNowNext, Keller reveals more details behind the photoshoot, including the differences between porn modeling and high fashion modeling:
"The biggest difference is that the shoot is more focused on the clothes. It was a wonderful opportunity to work with Juergen Teller who, in addition to being a nice guy, has an honest improvisational style that I have always liked. It was just a great, super hardworking team of people that were all incredibly friendly and accommodating."
Keller also talks about how the opportunity came to him through a picture that was sent to Andreas Kronthaler, Westwood's husband, by friend and fashion designer, Bernhard Wilhelm.
"We'd gone thrifting in LA and he snapped a pic of me in some Vivienne Westwood vintage trousers and sent the pic to Andreas."
Although this was case, Keller hinted that Westwood may have heard of him through a consignment auction called Hasbeens and Willbees that Keller participated in.
"Vivienne was another one of the participants so she may have heard about me from that. And then someone from her team got in touch with me."
What drew Keller to take on the shoot was his appreciation for the British fashion designer.
"As a nerd at heart, I always appreciate the historical references embedded in her work, and as an activist I'm drawn to her punk sensibility. She puts a lot of thought, research, and heart into every collection."
Keller's career continues to grow as he begins to focus on other projects, having recently finished filming Colby Does America (his not-safe-for-work photo project).
"I've just finished filming state forty-nine in the Colby Does America project. What's next? Alaska and the Aurora Borealis!"
