Betsey Johnson Wins NYFW With Marriage Equality-Themed Runway

How did Betsey Johnson make her spring show stand out at New York Fashion Week? By creating runway filled with a delightful mix of same-sex couples, trans models, drag queens, and the winning theme of marriage equality.

With a bag of rice labeled "Pre-nup" sent out as an invite, Johnson made sure she was committed to her message on and off the runway. Some of the notable looks were worn by trans model, Isis King, RuPaul's Drag Race alums Sharon Needles and Willlam Belli, and a couple of Real Housewives.

The show contained Johnson's recognizable punk style and she closed it out with her signature cartwheel and splits, and her partner from the upcoming season of Dancing With the Stars, Tony Dovolani, made an appearance too.

Johnson described her show as "trendy and transgendy" to the Associated Press, "pre nup is a part of the whole world of straight brides, gay brides, transgender marriages, everybody getting married. Finally, freedom."
