We've gotta go next year for the 20th anniversary in Provincetown.
Yes, you're right: Fire Island is a gay mecca come summer. That is a fact. But it isn't the only one by a long shot! Every year, while mostly Manhattan fellows go to vacation in Fire Island, others head to Provincetown Massachusetts (which is also open year-round) -- an island off of Cape Cod. And amongst them, for one week of the summer, the most hirsute of queers make their annual voyage.
That's right, the bears are coming.
Though Bear Week has become more than accepting to all, when you look through the photos from the event you do see a propensity for more size variations, hairier bellies, and even a larger age range than you would see at say, maybe ... the Black Party. This year between the Boat Slip Resort, Crown & Anchor, and Spirtus Pizza, stars like Ben De La Creme, Milk, and Brian Sims all made appearances. But outside of seeing the stars, bears (and friends) can be seen at the Provincetown Inn Pool (which some dub "bear soup"), biking, or eating out at The Lobster Pot. And doing all that, and maybe thinking a little less about how your belly is going to look, is going to feel when you're back in that itsy bitsy, teeny weeny, yellow polka dot bikini. Sounds like the type of summer we want to have!
This year, the event celebrated its 19th annual event, and so in honor of the milestone, here are our 19 favorite posts from Instagram. Looks like a fun time for all.
