If you've ever wondered whether Rupert Murdoch, the chairman and CEO of News Corp, the media holdings parent company of Fox News, was just a bald-faced opportunist, not actually believing any of the hawkish, often antigay, often racist, anti-democratic, and pro-rich propaganda by the likes of the Fox News cadre, just cashing in on the right-wing-bat-shittery-as-profit-center while quietly keeping his own beliefs out of the media, take this example as evidence to the contrary.
He's now tweeting that gay groups "bullied" Guinness into dropping its sponsorship of New York City's St. Patrick's Day Parade (which is happening as this posts, incidentally), calling for a boycott of the Irish beer company. He called on the Irish to boycott Guiness. Stay classy, Rupe.
Yesterday Guiness decided to pull support from the parade, for the specific reason that the parade will not allow LGBT groups to march. Even the Irish ones. Because, God.
The wrote in a statement, "Guinness has a strong history of supporting diversity and being an advocate for equality for all. We were hopeful that the policy of exclusion would be reversed for this year's parade."
Samuel Adams and Heineken also pulled their support of the mean-spirited and antigay St. Patrick's Day parade.
