The popular Israeli TV host's university speaking tour runs through April 16
Mark your calendars! Out 100 honoree Assi Azar, Israeli television personality and host of Big Brother, Israel's number one most watched TV show, is on tour in the United States with CAMERA, the Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America. The organization's goal is "to teach students about the progressive nature of Israel and the LGBTQ community there."
Assi will be showing his film, Mom and Dad: I Have Something to Tell You (see trailer below), on some campuses and leading discussions about gay life in Israel. While there is room for improvement, according to Assi, Israel is more progressive than the U.S. in many ways in terms of LGBT rights. At Clark University Azar spoke about his military service in the 1990s, when it was acceptable for soldiers to be openly gay, decades before it was legal in the U.S. Israeli celebrities can also more easily come out of the closet as opposed to the U.S.
He'll be speaking at these locations in the coming weeks:
April 7: Cornell University
April 8: Ohio University at an event that will take place right after the annual Rainbow Seder
April 9: Ohio University. (This event is not sponsored by CAMERA.)
April 13: Augsburg College
April 14: University of Minnesota
April 15: UCLA
April 16: UC Santa Barbara
