What little boy doesn't want a Little Mermaid doll?
Although it's only August, it's safe to say that "Open-Minded Father of the Year" goes to Mikki Willis. The Ojai, Calif., dad posted a video to Facebook Friday in which he breaks gender rules for the sake of his child's happiness.
After his son Azi received two of the same presents for his birthday, Mikki took the boy to exchange one for another gift. He held up his son's selection, a Little Mermaid Disney Princess doll. As Azi giggles and blushes, his dad goes on to speak in support of his son's decision:
"I let my boys choose their life. That's how mama and I, that's how we are, right? We just say, 'Whatever.' We say, 'Yea, choose it. Choose your expression. Choose what you're into. Choose your sexuality. Choose whatever.' You have my promise right now, both of you, as we sit in this car, this hot car in this parking lot. You have my promise forever to love you and accept you no matter what life you choose."
This beautiful display comes after retail giant Target's recent decision to end gender separation in their children's toy sections. Although that decision came under fire from a large number of consumers, this video exemplifies the positive societal effect of gender nonconformity.
