Most computer programmers aren't known for their colorful personalities, but Hall, executive director of the techie nonprofit Linux International, continues to surprise those in the field with his mischievous ways. This year, he was inspired to come out publicly in honor of the 100th anniversary of Alan Turing, someone he sees as a hero. "I explained to people who wondered why I came out online that there are a lot of young geeks who are going through the same thing," he says. "And I wanted to let them know they were not alone, and that it gets better."
