Out100: Cason Crane

Mountaineer

Photography by Danielle Levitt

"I realized in the middle of this journey that I couldn't do this myself," says globetrotting adventurer -- yes, that's his vocation -- Crane. "I needed a team." He found one by turning to his community. The first openly gay man to scale the "Seven Summits" -- the highest peak on each continent -- Cason started the Rainbow Summits Project, which raised almost $135,000 for the Trevor Project. Always looking for his "next Everest," he is now a member of the Princeton class of 2017. "I'll continue to climb, but my immediate challenge is finishing university."

Photographed at Fast Ashley's Studio in Brooklyn, N.Y., on October 2, 2013
