Out100: Breanna Sinclairé

Opera Singer & Trans Activist

Photography by Ryan Pfluger in San Francisco on August 16, 2015.

When San Francisco-based soprano Breanna Sinclaire belted "The Star-Spangled Banner" before a stadium of thousands at an Oakland A's game this summer, she became the first transgender woman to sing the national anthem at a professional sporting event. "The experience was surreal to me," Sinclaire says, adding that she felt like she was "part of the revolution" in a year that saw unprecedented trans visibilitity. "It was such an honor to perform as my true self, especially as a trans woman of color, singing for a mostly hetero-populated stadium. I can truly say it taught me that all things are possible."
