Out100: Sarah Kate Ellis

President & CEO of GLAAD

Photography by Ryan Pfluger at St. Patrick's Cathedral, New York, on September 8, 2015. Styling by marc anthony george. Hair and Makeup: Angela DiCarlo. Dress by Diane Von Furstenberg.

The personal has always been political for Sarah Kate Ellis, who appeared kissing her wife, the musician Kristen Henderson, on a now-famous cover of Time magazine in April 2013. That image, and its accompanying cover line, "Gay Marriage Already Won," was not just prophetic, but indicative of the confidence Ellis brings to the cause as president and CEO of GLAAD, a position she assumed in 2014. Ellis celebrated the Supreme Court decision on marriage equality at New York's Stonewall Inn, but her euphoria is tempered with caution. "Legislation and court decisions are only part of the puzzle," she says. "Continuing to change the culture and accelerate acceptance is the work we are doing at GLAAD."
