CATHERINE OPIE
With a mid-career retrospective at New York's Guggenheim Museum, Opie and her work have never had a higher profile. Noted for her strong portraitures and their contributions to identity politics discourse, her work has been compared to Walker Evans and Dorothea Lange. Prior to her show at the Guggenheim, she had exhibited at museums of contemporary art in Chicago and Los Angeles as well as Minneapolis's Walker Art Center. She is also a professor of photography at the University of California, Los Angeles.
