"This is the kind of song that makes a man love a man," Jamal sings in his version of "You're So Beautiful" and then yelps: "You call me papi and I like it!"
EW had an exclusive first listen to "You're So Beautiful," the brand new track from the Lyons' gay son Jamal (Jussie Smollett), who's on course to be music's next big music thing.
It's from last night's episode of Empire, sure to be a hit after the ratings craziness so far, since this week it's time for the Lyon family to come together and record a legacy album with Lucious, Hakeem, and Jamal. Cookie and Camilla (guest star Naomi Campbell) finally come face-to-face, Andre struggles with some inner demons, and Jamal steps into the spotlight with news that surprises everyone in the all-new "The Lyon's Roar" episode of EMPIRE on Wednesday.
" 'You're So Beautiful' is one of my favorite songs this season," Smollett tells EW. "It was produced by the great Jim Beanz and co-written by Jim and myself. When Jim first played the track, it spoke right to me. The lyrics were actually inspired by Gabby Sidibe. She's confident, sexy, and owns exactly who she is, but every now and then... you just need to simply hear the words, 'You're So Beautiful.' "
Could Jamal/Jussie have the best gay pop/R&B love song of all time on his hands? It was certainly his coming out anthem.
