'Amy: The Girl Behind The Name' is coming out this summer in Europe
The first poster for the Amy Winehouse documentary has just been revealed. Entitled Amy: The Girl Behind The Name, the movie is directed by Asif Kapadia, the award-winning documentary filmmaker behind Senna (about the late Formula One racer Ayrton Senna).
A five-time Grammy winner, Winehouse was considered one of the most talented (and troubled) artists of her generation. She was found dead from alcohol poisoning in her Camden apartment in July 2011, at the age of 27.
"This is an incredibly modern, emotional and relevant film that has the power to capture the zeitgeist and shine a light on the world we live in, in a way that very few films can," said director Asif Kapadia and producer James Gay-Rees in a joint statement. "Amy was a once-in-a-generation talent who captured everyone's attention; she wrote and sung from the heart and everyone fell under her spell. But tragically Amy seemed to fall apart under the relentless media attention, her troubled relationships, her global success and her precarious lifestyle. As a society we celebrated her huge success but then we were quick to judge her failings when it suited us."
Amy will be released on July 3, 2015 across the UK. An official US release date has yet to be announced. Scroll down to see the poster.
