Lady Gaga Might Play Donatella Versace in American Crime Story
During a panel at Entertainment Weekly's PopFest over the weekend, Ryan Murphy hinted that fans might just be right in speculating that Lady Gaga would be perfect for the role of Donatella Versace in the upcoming season of American Crime Story.
The third season of the anthology series is set to revolve around the 1997 murder of Gianni Versace, the openly gay fashion designer.
When the PopFest panel moderator suggested that Gaga would be great for the role, Murphy gave a knowing grin and said, "Ya think?"
Gaga, a friend of Donatella Versace (the song "Donatella" off of Gaga's album ARTPOP is based on her), has appeared on the last two seasons of Murphy's American Horror Story.
During the panel, Murphy also explained that he wanted to focus the third season on Gianni's murder because the serial killer who did it, Andrew Cunanan, remained undetected by authorities until his own suicide.
"The tragedy of the Versace murder was that it should not have happened. He should have been caught by then," Murphy explained. "But he wasn't caught because he was targeting gay people, and people didn't care. That's why Gianni Versace was killed, for the most part."
Gaga's No. 1 album Joanne was released last week. You can also catch her on American Horror Story: Roanoke, currently airing on FX Wednesdays at 10 p.m.
