Is Pixar Finally Going Gay with Finding Dory?
It may be conjecture, but Twitter seems to think so!
The latest trailer for Pixar's follow-up to the crowd pleasing Finding Nemo came out this week, and viewers have been speculating whether the two women featured in a scene are actually a lesbian couple.
“That new #FindingDory trailer released this morning? I think that's the first lesbian couple in a @DisneyPixar film.”— Matthew Gottula 🏳️‍🌈 (@Matthew Gottula 🏳️‍🌈) 1464104200
While the moment in question lasts less than three seconds, Twitter users have retweeted the moment hundreds of times.
If this turns out to be true, Dory could be the first Pixar film to feature a gay character. Perhaps Ellen DeGeneres voicing the title character had something to do with it?
In any case, the move would help the reputation of the studio, which has a tradition of shutting out LGBTQ character portrayals, according to the latest Studio Responsibility Index issued by GLAAD. Disney received a failing grade in the index.
While the adorable pageboy haircut may be a hint, the moment is so brief that we should probably wait to see the movie, out in theaters June 16, before jumping to our keyboards.
