Get Involved: First Look at Whoopi Goldberg's Trans Model Series, Strut
Gift unto the world Whoopi Goldberg is producing a new show about the world's first exclusively transgender modeling agency, Slay Model Management. The Oxygen series, appropriately titled Strut, follows models Dominique, Laith De La Cruz, Isis King, Ren Spriggs and Arisce Wanzer.
Dominique is already a personal favorite, based solely off this carefree slay on a crowded street:
Meanwhile, you may recognize Laith from his recent Attitude cover and/or your spank bank:
And Isis made history as the first trans contestant on America's Next Top Model--a fact that she will not let anyone forget:
Too bad rowdy runway rover Arisce Wanzer has selective amnesia:
Ah, the shade. The glorious, glorious shade. Arisce seems to be the resident "bad girl" of the bunch because every show needs someone who's not there to make friends. After all, this isn't Strut's Best Friends Race, though if it was, Arisce would already be the winner: rumor has it she's dating Laith. Hooray for her.
But it's not all glamour and drinks being thrown in faces, though there's at least some of that:
Being trans, these models face unique obstacles, and Whoopi's intent is to portray them in an honest and genuine light.
"Our models come from all walks of life, all different backgrounds and ethnicities," Whoops said in a statement. "They are struggling with things we can all relate to-trying to make ends meet, fighting to make a name for themselves and navigating the minefields of personal relationships.
"All of these struggles are amplified by the fact that they are also fighting to break down barriers and taking on the responsibility of representing the transgender community in today's society. It's time to separate caricature from real people and that's what we are doing with Strut."
Below, check out the trailer for Strut, premiering Tuesday, September 20th at 9/8c on Oxygen:
