Susan Sarandon Debates Gender Identity & Sexuality in Exclusive 3 Generations Clip
Writer/director Gaby Dellal's latest film, 3 Generations follows a transitioning teenage boy named Ray (Elle Fanning). Living with his mother (Naomi Watts), grandmother (Susan Sarandon) and his grandmother's girlfriend (Linda Emond), Ray's transition proves to be a struggle. Although he has a better support system than most in his situation, typical stigmas ensue.

In an exclusive clip, Susan Sarandon debates whether or not Ray should go through with his surgery. Her character is a lesbian, but the scene illustrates how trans people face hostility even from within the queer community. Sarandon's character ultimately argues that an operation or even transitioning genders isn't necessary, and that she "votes lesbian" as her grandson's identity.
