A perfect, beat for beat recreation of Sailor Moon's transformation — on ice!

Russian Olympic figure skater Evgenia Medvedeva was a favorite to take gold this week, but is currently in second place following the short programs on Tuesday. Her 2017 foot injury (a crack in the metatarsal bone in her right foot just before the 2017 Rostelecom Cup) has left her skating a tiny bit less perfect than it was, letting fellow Russian skater Alina Zagitova (who is only 15 years old) slip ahead of her by just over a point, securing the highest score ever for a short program.

But Medvedeva is still one of the most dynamic skaters on the ice, and also one of the few among her competitors who seems to find joy in a beautiful but brutal sport. Nowhere is this more apparent than in her exhibition skate, in which the anime-obsessed 18-year-old perfectly recreates Sailor Moon's magical transformation. YouTube user Miss Teeori created a side-by-side comparison of Medvedeva's exhibition skate and the original anime, proving just how perfectly the skater brings the cartoon to life on the ice.

Can Medvedeva turn it around with her free skate tonight and take the gold? There's no doubt she'll be on the podium, but that tiny 15-year-old could very well dash her dreams. Hopefully Medvedeva has moon prism power on her side.
