Wet Hot Summer Romance: Ben & McKinley's Cutest Couple Moments
The return of Wet Hot American Summer on Netflix has been glorious. First Day of Camp is as brilliantly dumb and silly as the original and 14 years later, most of the illustrious cast hasn't aged a day. One of the Wet Hot bits that made the original a cult hit was the romance between Ben, the theater director, and McKinley, the theater kid -- resulting in one of the sexiest gay scenes in cinema history.
Wet Hot took place on the last day of camp and culminated with Ben and McKinley getting married. For First Day of Camp, we see how it all began as two-time Oscar nominee (never forget) Bradley Cooper and occasional Oscar-viewer Michael Ian Black rekindled the McBenley fire -- albeit without the tool shed sex. Oh, well.
Here are McBenley's cutest moments.
Their Meet-Cute
Once McKinley saw Ben's man spanx, it was over.
The Zoot Suit of Love
This piece of costuming -- part of a big number for the first day of camp musical, Electro/City -- would both literally and figuratively bring them together.
Their "Very Special" Moment
What always made Ben and McKinley's relationship funny was how straight (all puns intended) Cooper and Black played it.
McKinley coming out to Ben, who's not as openly "creative" as he is, has all the hallmarks of a "very special" movie of the week --
If those '80s relics handled the topic of teen gayness with anything resembling an even hand.
Their First Lingering Touch
Whoa there, fellas, get a tool shed.
Feel the Electro/City!
After a showstopping performance of "Zoot Suit," Ben and McKinley finally gave into their red-blooded American urges.
Gay love is in the air everywhere you look around..and around...and around.
Z-O-O-T-S-U-I-T-K-I-S-S-I-N-G
Their First Date
And the rest, as they say --
Is history.
