Photography by Rachel A. Sale | Art Direction by John Coplen
Photographer Rachel A. Sale explores the beauty of iconic masculine and feminine images by photographing a series of 21st-century gender non-conforming icons. She and art director John Coplen chose a series of significant pop culture portraits and then recreated them for Masc2Fem.
"We realized through conversation that we share a belief that everyone has the right to identify their sex and gender in the way that is most true to their inner being," Coplen explains. "Too many of us take on a role that feels unnatural based on society's expectation and popular images further define masculinity and femininity. We hope these images add a little positive energy and encouragement to anyone who may see themselves a little differently."
