Stokes is best known for his photo tomes featuring scantily clad muscle men, Masculinity and Bare Strength -- the latter, released last year, had a chapter dedicated to wounded, amputee Marines. Stokes then decided to create a separate book for the men who served in the United States military, Always Loyal ($79.99)
According to Stokes:
Each veteran will have a bio page and details related to his or her injuries. The vast majority of these veterans have lost one or multiple limbs from IED attacks. So far, I have photographed 12 of these veterans, and the last two (one is female) are scheduled to be photographed within the next three weeks.
Though the other book, Exhibition ($99.99), will also include some veterans, it will be in a similar vein to Stokes' previous work: "male erotic images and figure studies of fitness competitors, personal trainers and body builders from around the world."
I knew I got into the wrong line of work.
A Kickstarter for the books exceeded its goal of $48,250, raising that amount in just 75 minutes, and now resting well over $200,000 with eight days of fundraising to go. Check out some more photos and info about the projects below:
