Matt Lambert's 'Home'
Berlin-based photographer and filmmaker Matt Lambert has lensed music videos for Years & Years and Mykki Blanko, but with Home, his latest book project, he returns to still photography and his favorite subject, the male nude. Home is the first publication released by the social app Grindr, and deals with the notion of "safe space" in gay culture, both physical and virtual, in our post-Orlando, digitally-acute era.
Lambert's intimate shots are complete with personal stories from the boys he met in Berlin, and via his travels in Prague, Toronto, New York, L.A., Paris, and London. Most of these young men come from small towns, and share their experience using digital tools such as Grindr to build a sense of community and a new home where they could love freely. A foreword by Bruce LaBruce explores the concept of safe space how "it used to be" in the 1970s and '80s. Click through to see preview images from the book, out now at Grindrstore.com
