Ready for more Heartstopper?
While we're patiently awaiting a premiere date for season two of the beloved Netflix series, the writer of the original webcomic, Alice Oseman, is holding us over with a brand new novella.
Titled Nick and Charlie, the story picks up a few years after Season 1 as the adorable couple mentally prepares for Nick to go off to college. "Everyone's asking if they're staying together, which is a stupid question - they're 'Nick and Charlie', for God's sake!" The official description continues, "But as the time to say goodbye gets inevitably closer, both Nick and Charlie question whether their love is strong enough to survive being apart. Or are they delaying the inevitable? Because everyone knows that first loves rarely last forever..."
Oseman celebrated the U.S. and Canada release on social media yesterday. "I originally wrote this short story in 2015, which was before Heartstopper ever existed," they captioned images of the new book. "It was only released on e-book in 2015, so it's very cool that this gorgeous hardback now exists, eight years later. I was very excited to get to illustrate the cover once again! I hope you all enjoy this little story about Nick and Charlie's last summer before Nick heads off to university!"
According to Queerty, the novella will also feature an unserious "British-to-American translation section by prolific LGBTQ+ author David Levithan, where he explains things like localized phrases, name-brand snacks, and what the heck A-Levels and GCSEs are."
You can find a copy of your own at your local bookstore.
