Get ready to fall in love with Circuit Breaker this Valentine's Day.

There’s a new nonbinary superhero for us to obsess over.

“Slow down and take a look,” DC Comics said in a tweet announcing the new character. “A new DC Super Hero, Circuit Breaker, debuts in Lazarus Planet: Dark Fate on February 14!”

Artist A.L. Kaplan shared the first official artwork of the character, giving us a great look at the new hero, and also confirming that they are nonbinary and trans.

“Meet Jules Jourdain (he/they), aka Circuit Breaker,” Kaplan tweeted. “‘Can a new hero channel the inexorable Still Force energy to fend off evil?’ – Debuting in DC’s Lazarus Planet: Dark Fate #1, out on Valentine’s Day.”

Kaplan also responded to a fan asking about Circuit Breaker’s identity, saying that yes, he’s a trans man, “but not super into the binary.”

DC editor Andrea Shea also tweeted about her excitement about the new character. “Circuit Breaker is gonna be your new favorite character!” she said. “@alkcomics breathes life into Jules Jourdain’s first adventure this February, in which our new hero is blessed (or cursed?) with the dreaded Still Force during Lazarus Planet: Dark Fate.”

So what exactly is the Still Force? In the DC Universe, there are Seven Forces that exist and can grant characters powers. The Speed Force is the mysterious force that grants The Flash his superspeed.

The Still Force is the Speed Force’s exact opposite. This could mean that Circuit Breaker could be a powerful ally to The Flash, or the one hero powerful enough to stop him.

And what is Lazarus Planet? In the DC Universe, a volcano erupted on the mysterious Lazarus Island, trapping the world in a chaotic magical storm. Now, it’s up to heroes like Circuit Breaker to stop it.

DC has been introducing several trans and nonbinary superheroes in recent years. Dreamer is a trans woman superhero who was first introduced in The CW's Supergirl television show before making her way into the comics. And another member of the Flash family, Kid Quick, is nonbinary.

Lazarus Planet: Dark Fate #1 goes on sale on February 14, 2023.
