Lady Gaga’s Next Big Film Role Has Finally Been Announced

Gaga and Patrizia

The Oscar-winning actress will portray Maurizio Gucci’s ex-wife who orchestrated his murder in 1995.

In her first feature film following her performance in A Star is Born, Lady Gaga has been tapped to star in a movie about the "tumultuous Gucci family fashion dynasty," according to Deadline, and the murder of Maurizio, the grandson of founder Guccio Gucci.

The Academy Award-nominated actress will play the role of Patrizia Reggiani, the ex-wife of Maurizio Gucci, who was convicted of Gucci's assasination which took place on the steps of his Milan office building in 1995.

Reggiani married Maurizio in 1973 and they became one of Italy's most famous power couples. The couple divorced in 1994 after Maurizio left Reggiani for another woman. A year later Maurizio was killed, having been shot multiple times by a hitman. Reggiani was convicted in 1998 along with four others for ordering her former husband's assassination.

In the highly publicized trial, Reggiani was sentenced to 29 years in prison, although she ultimately served only 18 years and was released in 2016. She was heralded as the "Black Widow" by the media.

The film will be directed by Ridley Scott (who is known for the 1991 hit classic Thelma & Louise), with Robert Bentivegna writing the script based on Sara Gay Forden's book The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed.

Lady Gaga received a Best Actress nomination for her role inA Star is Born. She won her first Oscar for co-writing the film's soundtrack hit Shallow, alongside Mark Ronson, Anthony Rossomando, and Andrew Wyatt.

The film currently has no release date.
