Bella Thorne Says She’s “Actually Pansexual”

Bella Thorne

The former Disney star says the label means she likes “beings.”

It seems former Disney star Bella Thorne is realizing some things about her sexuality. After having come out as bisexual in 2016 on Twitter, the actress has recently revealed that she has come to identify as pansexual.

"I'm actually pansexual and I didn't know that," she said on Good Morning America. "Somebody explained to me very thoroughly what that is." Thorne would join the likes of Courtney Act and Janelle Monae, as well as others who have identified with the term.

"[Pansexuals] like beings" she said, illuminating the difference with bisexuality. "You like what you like. It doesn't have to be a girl or a guy or a he or she or they or that -- it's literally, you like a personality. You just like a being."

The revelation comes as a part of the 21-year-old's press tour for her book Life of a Wannabe Mogul: Mental Disarray. After a traumatic year for her where, amongst other things, a hacker tried to blackmail her with nude photographs. Thorne preemptively posted the images herself. The book is a collection of poems written by Thorne and includes writing about her depression as well as sexual abuse she experienced. She reveals that this started at age six and went through to her teenage years.

2018 was named as the year of the pansexual by Marriam-Webster. This came initiated, in part, by Monae's coming out which spiked searches for the term. They define it as "of, relating to, or characterized by sexual desire or attraction that is not limited to people of a particular gender identity or sexual orientation." Many have embraced the term after having coming out previously as bisexual.
