Emma Stone Fought for That Infamous SNL Gay Porn Parody

"Emma really, really championed it ... She was like ‘I would be heartbroken if this got cut, I’m so proud of this.’”

We all remember Saturday Night Live's gay porn parody. It starred Emma Stone, playing an actress named Grace, who has landed the part of Deidre who has a cameo appearance in a same-sex skin flick. With that level of inception, the skit was appropriately titled "The Actress" and featured real-life porn actor Ty Mitchell. Well, according to Bowen Yang, who co-wrote the project, it almost didn't happen!

In the season finale episode of the Outcast, Yang, who was recently named as the first East Asian cast member of SNL, sit down with podcast host Rose Dommu to chat all things Emmys. But after they finish running through the list of categories, Dommu offers up a parting thought.

"I will say, I think the biggest snub of the year: Emma Stone for 'The Actress,'" she says. Yang wrote the skit -- which apparently is called a "pre-tape" in the industry -- alongside his friend Julio Torres.

"We both had a parallel thought," he said of the segment's genesis. That thought was to use a guest who had come in for SNL's Weekend Update as the actress who gets cheated on in a gay porn. "We weren't sure how to place it or what the container was, and then we just wrote it when Emma was hosting. She came in on us writing and sat down with us and read through it and really made sure she got it. [Grace is] a really serious actress, and very method you would say, and she comes in on this gay porn set where she's treated like shit but she wants to be super serious about it." The rounded out the cast with Mitchell and a background actor, and off to the races.

"God, it was great and then Emma really championed it," Yang explained. "At dress rehearsal it gets played, and it did OK. It didn't kill. And [they] might have had the inclination to cut it. I believe Emma really, really championed it in that meeting. She was like 'I would be heartbroken if this got cut, I'm so proud of this.'" We stan an ally!

"Then Julio and I on set, just in between takes we would turn to each other and be like 'oh my god, what did she just do?'" Yang continued. "We would say things like 'can you cry on cue?' and she would just be like, 'yeah, just give me one second.' And she paced the room for about 30 seconds and then tears were coming out of her eyes. And she did the scenes where she was supposed to be emotional.

"Not that I disputed the Oscar ever, or whatever, but it was like she has a fucking Oscar and there's a reason why!"

A true actress indeed! And with a snub at the Emmys, there's only one thing that could make this better.

"You should actually make the porn," Dommu suggests. That would definitely get a GayVN at the very least!

The Outcast is available on iHeartRadio, Apple Podcast, and... pretty much everywhere else that podcasts are available.
