Actor Jannik Schümann Comes Out, Is Overwhelmed With Support

German Actor Jannik Schümann Overwhelmed by Response After Coming Out

“I have read every single message and cannot put my feelings into words.”

German actor Jannik Schumann closed out 2020 by coming out and introducing the world to his boyfriend with a simple kiss. The heartwarming black and white photo of boyfriend Felix Kruck embracing Schumann and gently kissing him on the forehead has since gone viral and generated an overwhelming outpouring of support and affirmation.

"I am overwhelmed by all the messages, comments and the love you give us," 28-year-old Schumann, who is set to appear in Netflix's sci-fi drama Tribes of Europa next month, wrote in an Instagram story. "I have read every single message and cannot put my feelings into words."

The initial, wordless Christmas Eve post went viral, inspiring heart emojis and other messages of support from fellow actors, fans, and even one German member of the European Parliament who recognized the importance of the act. Out MEP Rasmus Andresen wrote that news of actors coming out is still important "because too many people in our society are afraid of being open about their sexuality."

Schumann has appeared in numerous German language films, including Close to the Horizon (Dem Horizont So Nah), The Aftermath, The Diplomat, and the screen adaptation of Andreas Steinhofel's best-selling young adult coming of age novel, Centre of My World (Die Mitte der Welt). He also appeared with Milla Jovovich in Capcom's Monster Hunter.

Schumann and Krug are using the positive support and affirmation they have received to kickstart the new year.

"Thank you!" Schumann posted. "2021 will be a good year. I can feel it."
