The Owl House, Good Girls Star Mae Whitman Comes Out As Pansexual

Mae Whitman

"I wish I had such incredible characters like Amity and Luz in my life when I was growing up," the actress said.

The voice actor behind our favorite lesbian witch is pansexual IRL!

Mae Whitman, a successful actor and voice actor who has starred in projects Arrested Development, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Good Girls, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, and currently plays the lesbian witch Amity on Disney Channel's The Owl House tweeted today that she is pansexual and celebrated the representation the show brings.

"Just taking a moment to say I am SO proud to be even a small part of a show like The Owl House," she tweeted. "Being pansexual myself, I wish I had such incredible characters like Amity and Luz in my life when I was growing up. Queer representation is sososo important :,) keep it up world!"

"I know ppl might be unfamiliar with what pansexual means; for me it means I know I can fall in love with people of all genders," she followed up in another tweet, also linking to GLAAD's website about the bi+ community and the Bisexual Resource Center. "This is the word that fits me best and I'm proud+happy to be part of the Bi+ community :,)"

Whitman is currently starring as Amity Blight, a young lesbian witch in a relationship with Luz Noceda, the first bisexual protagonist of a Disney show. In recent episodes, the couple have grown closer and become girlfriends, and it's all incredibly adorable, and revolutionary for a cartoon made by Disney.

She recently also played Annie Marks, the supportive mother of an 11-year-old trans boy on the NBC dramedy Good Girls. The show was canceled this year after four seasons.

Whitman has long been a favorite among queer fans. Her character Amber on the NBC drama Parenthood was the crush of many young women in the 2010s, and her roles in Scott Pilgrim, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, and The DUFF solidified her as an icon of Hollywood indie actresses.

Congratulations to Mae, we couldn't be happier for you!
