Great British Bake Off Alum Got Banned from Grindr for 'Impersonating' Himself

Great British Bake Off Alum Got Banned from Grindr for 'Impersonating' Himself

Michael Chakraverty

At least Michael Chakraverty got a new drag name out of it!

Michael Chakraverty, known for being one of the most adorable Great British Bake Off contestants ever, has been suspended from Grindr. His crime? Impersonating Great British Bake Off star Michael Chakraverty.

Chakraverty, who finished sixth in the 10th season of the show back in 2019, posted a screenshot of his suspended Grindr account on Twitter. "Your account has been reported as impersonating someone else," the image reads. "To continue using Grindr, please verify your account." The GBBO alum only had an exasperated "sigh" to add.

That's right, Chakraverty was banned from Grindr for impersonating himself.

But the baker isn't letting the news get him down. Instead, he sees this as an opportunity for an all-new identity. "New drag queen name, Cat Fisher," he tweeted after posting the Grindr screenshot.

Fans were also having a ball with the news on Twitter, replying cheeky comments like, "They've never had a problem with master baking before," and "Guess you'll be avoiding soggy bottoms for a while then." Please!!!

Chakraverty was rumored to be dating fellow GBBO star Henry Bird back in 2019 when the pair were spotted together in photos on social media. Alice Fevronia, another Bake Off contestant, posted a photo of the two bakers mixing brownie batter together. Bird is seen cuddling Chakraverty from behind, and Fevronia captioned the pic "BAE-ke Off."

Another image posted by Fevronia showed her with her boyfriend kissing her cheek, and Bird kissing Chakraverty's cheek. "But how many couples can you see...?" she captioned the image.

This isn't the first time this has happened to a celeb looking for a little fun on the app. Back in 2018, Watch What Happens Live star Andy Cohen revealed to Ellen that he's been banned multiple times for allegedly impersonating himself.

"There is a gay dating app that I'm on -- cough...Grindr...cough -- that I keep getting kicked off of because they think I'm impersonating Andy Cohen, and they're like, 'Your photos don't meet our guidelines,' and I keep trying to [say]: 'No! It is me!'" he reported.

RuPaul's Drag Raceseason 8 winner Bob the Drag Queen also reported that she was banned from the hookup app for "impersonating Bob the Drag Queen" when she visited Texas in 2016. Her account was reinstated after she tweeted about it.

Can someone please help these celebs get their much-needed hookups???
