Cara Cunningham, the creator of the viral "Leave Britney Alone" video is transitioning and discussing the steps she's taking on Instagram.
"Tomorrow is my appointment for hormone replacement therapy. It's been 33 years coming and I'm happy to be in a place where I can embrace who I am," she wrote in a Wednesday post. "I have put my identity and personal happiness aside for so long, out of fear of rejection or me not wanting to embarrass my family."
Cunningham said she couldn't wait any longer, and that she knows those who actually love her will support her in her transition. She knows she may lose friends, but is ready to take the next steps.
She also updated fans with her name, saying that she's going by Cara now. She also pointed out that Crocker was never her actual last name.
Recently, Cunningham has posted several videos of her looking absolutely beautiful and completely happy with long, blonde hair. You go, girl!
Unfortunately, today, Cunningham posted a video update saying her estrogen prescription hasn't been delivered to her pharmacy. "Today was supposed to be my starting day, but the pharmacy just called and said that the estrogen did not come in," she says in the video. "So I'm just being patient and hoping it gets filled soon."
Earlier this year, Cunningham sold an NFT of her famous "Leave Britney Alone" viral video for $41,000. She used some of the money to help her grandmother and some of it to help fund her transition. She talked about how she's been afraid to transition in small-town Tennessee, where she currently resides, because of transphobia.
"I've always been scared to do the baby steps very slowly, because I was like, well, if I can't afford the full [transition], my safety is really gonna be a concern," she told Business Insider at the time. "People are very backward, and I already stick out for being feminine. So I've always thought if I am going to do it and still be here and live around my family, I have to go, like, all the way."
Congratulations Cara! You look absolutely beautiful and we're so happy you get to be your authentic self!
