JoJo Siwa isn't here for Candace Cameron Bure's homophobia.
Just a couple days after the conservative actress announced that her new slate of Christmas movies for the Great American Family channel will "keep traditional marriage at the core" and not explore LGBTQ+ relationships like recent Hallmark movies have, gay icon JoJo Siwa has called her out.
"Honestly, I can't believe after everything that went down just a few months ago, that she would not only create a movie with intention of excluding LGBTQIA+, but then also talk about it in the press," Siwa said on Instagram. "This is rude and hurtful to a whole community of people."
When Siwa says "everything that went down just a few months ago" what she's referring to is a conflict where Siwa called Bure the "rudest celebrity" she's ever met. She later explained that Bure snubbed her when she was 11 and first met her.
Bure then reached out to Siwa over the phone and the two made up and seemingly were cool with each other. But now, Siwa knows that Bure was holding back when the two talked.
Siwa's Instagram post about Bure didn't go unnoticed. Bure's Fuller House co-star Jodie Sweetin commented on the post with heart emojis and "You know I love you," throwing her support behind Siwa.
Siwa wasn't the only one to call out Bure. GLAAD also issued a statement against the actor's mission to erase and other LGBTQ+ people.
"It's irresponsible and hurtful for Candace Cameron Bure to use tradition as a guise for exclusion," GLAAD's President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis said. "I'd love to have a conversation with Bure about my wife, our kids, and our family's traditions. Bure is out of sync with a growing majority of people of faith, including LGBTQ people of faith, who know that LGBTQ couples and families are deserving of love and visibility."
