Some Halsey Fans Walked Out of Concert Over Abortion Rights Speech

Halsey

“I’m remembering your faces, what you look like, what you’re wearing, and I know that the reality is, is that some of the people that I’m looking at right now are going to need an abortion one day, and you deserve one.”

Halsey took a firm stance at her latest concert and invited listeners who didn't agree to walk out -- and that's exactly what they did.

At her recent concert in Phoenix, Arizona on Sunday, Halsey announced to the crowd that their heart was breaking looking out at a crowd of people who had just lost their rights.

"The truth is that my heart breaks looking out into this audience because I see so many people, so many people, who deserve to have incredible lives. Who deserve the right to healthcare that they need. Who deserve the right to choose themselves in a situation when there is a choice," they said in a video from the concert.

"I'm remembering your faces, what you look like, what you're wearing, and I know that the reality is, is that some of the people that I'm looking at right now are going to need an abortion one day, and you deserve one," they continued. "Whether it's a life-threatening situation or it's not, you deserve it."

She called on her fans to do the work to fight to make sure they all get their rights back -- and keep them.

"And if you don't like it, you can go home right now, I don't care. If you don't like it, I don't know why you came to a Halsey concert..." they said as the crowd erupted into cheers.

Unfortunately, not everyone in the crowd was cheering, as one fan tweeted that "the amount of people who just walked out of the Halsey concert after 'Nightmare,' when she spoke about abortion was sickening."

Halsey responded, saying that the "downside of doing outdoor venues" is that there's "no door to hit them on the way out."

They also spoke out against fans who are saying they just want to her "shut up and sing."

"The 'people pay to see you sing not hear your views' argument is so dumb," they tweeted. "No, you paid to see me use a stage as a form of expression in the manner that I choose. Sorry you lack the critical thinking to realize that the rhetorical power of music doesn't always serve your escapism."
