Christian Chavez became a household name around the world after playing Giovanni Mendez Lopez on the original Rebelde telenovela in Mexico. The success of Rebelde ultimately launched the pop group known as RBD, which consisted of Chavez, Anahi, Dulce Maria, Maite Perroni, Alfonso Herrera, and Christopher von Uckermann. To this day, RBD is considered the most successful pop group in Mexican history.
In the years that followed, Chavez starred in films, TV shows, and soap operas such as Rosario Tijeras, Like, La Casa De Las Flores, and Madre Solo Hay Dos. He released a studio album in 2010, Almas Transparentes, as well as subsequent EPs titled Libertad (2011), Esencial (2012), and Conectado (2018). In 2011, Chavez won a GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Spanish-Language Music Artist for the Almas Transparentes album.
Chavez was first outed in 2007 when a magazine published pictures of him and his alleged boyfriend exchanging rings. Even though he had previously denied rumors of being gay, Chavez chose to issue a statement where he officially came out after those images were leaked to the press. Thankfully, the Rebelde star is in a much better place now and is able to fully embrace his sexuality.
