The Ashlyn Harris-Ali Krieger divorce saga is getting more and more complicated.
According to Page Six, Krieger filed for divorce from Harris in December, several months after Harris "incorrectly" initiated divorce proceedings, making the divorce between the two former US Women's National Team soccer players even more complicated.
The couple's split has been very fraught, with the news that they were getting divorced being leaked while Krieger was on the soccer field. "I will never forget that moment," she told Self. "I found out at training. I was on the field. And I came off the field, in the locker room, and I was obviously devastated."
In October of 2023, Page Six published a story detailing how Harris had submitted a petition for divorce on September 19, saying the marriage was "irretrievably broken." The story was released by Page Six just four days before Krieger's team, Gotham FC, was about to play its final game of the season, and Krieger's final regular-season game of her career.
Now, it turns out that Harris' divorce paperwork wasn't filed correctly.
According to a new report from Page Six, Krieger claimed in new court paperwork that Harris incorrectly filed her paperwork last fall, and that she had to file for divorce herself in December.
According to the report, Harris also asked the court to implement a "legal and residential custody arrangement and parenting time that protects the best interests of their two children" and is asking the court to have Harris pay Krieger child support and legal fees.
Page Six also claims to have an "insider" who reported that Harris, who is now in a relationship with actress Sophia Bush, cheated on Krieger in June 2023 after Harris and Bush appeared on a panel together at the Cannes Lions Festival. Both Harris and Bush have vehemently denied this.
"Let me be clear: I did not step out on my marriage," Harris wrote on her social media. "I was always faithful in my marriage, if not always totally happy. Like in many partnerships, there was work in therapy and processing done. None of this happened on a whim. We spent the entire summer working to tackle the separation and divorce steps outlined for us by our therapists, lawyers, and our shared agency."
"The idea that I left my marriage based on some hysterical rendezvous — that, to be crystal-clear, never happened — rather than having taken over a year to do the most soul-crushing work of my life? Rather than realizing I had to be the most vulnerable I’ve ever been, on a public stage, despite being terrified to my core? It feels brutal,"
Bush wrote in an essay for Glamour. "Just because I didn't want to process my realizations in real time on social media and spell them out for the world doesn't mean the journey wasn't long and thoughtful and exhaustive."
