What a way to kick off 2024!
We’ve loved watching besties Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper get a little (or more than a little) tipsy while hosting CNN’s New Year’s Eve coverage for the last several years, and in 2023, it got even better.
For the last seven years, Bravo staple Cohen has hosted CNN’s New Year’s Eve Live celebration, and every year (barring last year) he and his co-host and close friend Anderson Cooper have celebrated by getting drunk throughout the night.
After taking a break from drinking on-air in 2022, Cohen and Cooper were back on the party bus for the 2023 NYE festivities, taking a shot at the top of each hour of the broadcast.
“It’s the top of the hour and we’ve been here for seven years doing this, and for most of those years at the top of the hour we typically have a toast," Cohen said. “I’m hearing from a lot of people asking, ‘Does Daddy get his juice?’”
The answer was a resounding ‘yes,’ as the two hosts took their first shot at 9pm. “I think it’s getting easier! I think it’s going down better,” Cohen quipped.
“Why do people do this?” Cooper replied after struggling to get his shot down.
But the night was just getting started.
The real moment of the night came two hours and several shots later when Cohen and Cooper welcomed guests Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang. Like Cohen and Cooper, Rogers and Yang are close friends and often work together. They co-host a podcast called Las Culturistas and have appeared in projects together like Fire Island and Rogers’ Christmas special Have You Heard of Christmas?
The energy when all four of them were on camera was electric. As the four laughed and joked, Cohen uttered a line that would become a symbol of the energy we’re taking into the new year.
After saying that having Cohen on their podcast was “the most important cultural moment of 2023,” Rogers quickly extended an invitation to Cooper to go on the show.
“Anderson, open invitation,” he said, “We’ll pass you around on our podcast.”
“You’ll pass me around?” Cooper clarified. “I mean, pass around patty? Is that what you’re–”
“Pass around Party Bottom,” Cohen chimed in, giving his friend a new title for the new year.
So, that’s it. 2024 is officially the year of the Pass Around Party Bottom. And, hopefully the year we get Anderson Cooper on
Las Culturistas.
