Barbie’s cast is stacked to the gills with some of our favorite actors in Hollywood, but it almost had two more we love.
Last September, Oscar nominee Saoirse Ronan revealed that while her director friend Greta Gerwig wanted to cast her in a cameo role in her new movie Barbie, the timing didn’t work out. “I was supposed to do a cameo because I live in London and they were there,” she told People. “There was a whole character I was going to play – another Barbie. I was gutted I couldn’t do it.”
Now, Gerwig has revealed that she also wanted Ronan’s Lady Bird and Little Women co-star Timothée Chalamet to appear as well!
“Well, it was always going to have to be like a sort of smaller thing because she was actually producing at the time, which I am so proud of her for. And of course, it's brilliant. But it was going to be a specialty cameo,” Gerwig told Cinemablend about Ronan’s planned scene.
Ronan is producing and starring in the film The Outrun, about a recovering alcoholic.
“I was also going to do a specialty cameo with Timmy, and both of them couldn't do it, and I was so annoyed,” she added. “But I love them so much. But it felt like doing something without my children. I mean, I'm not their mom, but I sort of feel like their mom.”
While we won’t get an Irish Barbie or Twink Ken played by Ronan or Chalamet, there are still plenty of amazing actors playing the iconic dolls in the movie. Aside from stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, Barbies are played by Issa Rae, Hari Nef, Alexandra Shipp, Emma Mackey, Dua Lipa, and more, and Kens are played by Kingsley Ben-Adir, Simu Liu, Scott Evans, and Ncuti Gatwa.
