Musician and Billy Ray Cyrus's son, Trace Cyrus, has put out a call for help for his famous father.
Trace Cyrus, the brother of singers Miley Cyrus and Noah Cyrus, and a former member of the band Metro Station, has put out a public plea to his father, singer Billy Ray Cyrus, to get help.
Cyrus wrote that his father was his hero and role model, and that the day he was adopted "was the happiest day of my life."
"Sadly the man that I wanted so desperately to be just like I barely recognize now," Cyrus wrote about his father on Instagram. "It seems this world has beaten you down and it’s become obvious to everyone but you. You may be upset with me for posting this but I really could care less at this point."
"Me and the girls have been genuinely worried about you for years but you’ve pushed all of us away…" he continued. "We are all hanging on to memories of the man we once knew & hoping for the day he returns. You’re not healthy Dad & everyone is noticing it."
"As I write this with tears in my eyes I hope you realize this message only comes from a place of love and also fear that the world may lose you far too soon. I love you Dad," Cyrus continues. "We haven’t talked in a while but I’m over a year and half clean from alcohol. Guess what? I feel amazing.. I don’t know what you’re struggling with exactly but I think I have a pretty good idea & I’d love to help you if you would open up and receive the help. You know how to reach me. Till that day comes I will continue to pray for you."
Billy Ray Cyrus has recently drawn attention for his Monday performance at President Trump's inaugural Liberty Ball. At the performance, Cyrus had technical difficulties, sang a capella, and had a scratchy, weak voice.
"Y'all want me to sing more or you want me to just get the hell off stage?" he asked at one point.
Besides literally having queer children, it's also noteworthy to recall that Cyrus hopped onto a remix of Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road" only a few years ago, which did help the song reach a wider audience. Even though the track had already been growing organically since its release, it was pretty remarkable that a well-known musician in the country genre, like Cyrus, chose to collaborate with Nas X, who was then a virtually unknown out gay rapper going viral with a track mixing up certain elements of both hip hop and country.
This sudden shift — underscored by Trace Cyrus's Instagram post — highlights how much a musician could have changed in just a few years.
