Drake Discovers Homophobia Still Exists in 2023

Homophobia is alive and well — and apparently Drake is only just now finding that out.

The 36-year-old rapper and singer is currently on the road with the It’s All a Blur tour across North America. In recent Instagram posts, Drake has been seen wearing pink nail polish and sporting diamond earrings. This prompted fellow rapper Lil Yachty to comment in a post, “Boy got them heavy hangers in his ear.”

Whether jokingly or not, Drake replied to Yachty’s comment (re-posted by @theshaderoom) with a pretty jarring statement. He wrote:

“Get out my comments. You told me to paint my nails so I stop biting them and now the world is being homophobic for the first time since Rich Flex… which wasn’t that long ago now that I think about it. Wait, is the world homophobic? Smh.”

One might assume that Drake was being facetious in his comment. But given the state of the world we’re living in, his comment still comes off as being pretty out-of-touch.

There’s also an ever-growing trend of male artists in hip hop, reggaeton, and similar genres starting to bend the traditional norms of heterosexuality, with musicians like Bad Bunny and Young Thug wearing dresses, painting their nails, and starting conversations surrounding those stereotypes – so Drake isn’t even doing anything that is completely out of the ordinary in comparison to his contemporaries.

If Drake earnestly just found out that homophobia is alive and well in 2023, that is absolutely jarring. In turn, if we are to assume that Drake was “just kidding” with his comment, this is quite an unfunny thing to joke about.
