Was Ethan Slater in a gay-for-pay video or just the victim of an epic troll?

This week an intrepid troll almost fooled the internet into thinking Ariana Grande’s new man Ethan Slater was a former gay-for-pay porn star.

As it turns out, the rumors proved to be false.

Yesterday, a video popped up on X (formerly Twitter), showing the former SpongeBob SquarePants: The Musical star wrestling with another man with the logo for the amateur adult film site GayHoopla emblazoned in the upper right-hand corner.

In the video, a shirtless — and very ripped — Slater gets into an argument with another man over money, and then the two start wrestling while a bored-looking woman sitting on a couch looks on.

The bad acting, super homoerotic tussling, and amateur lighting, coupled with the gay porn logo, make it easy to see why people were fooled into thinking this was the opening scene of an adult film.

But it turns out it’s a clip from a 2017 short film called FunEmployment, which some devious internet troll slapped the GayHoopla logo on, Queerty reported.

According to IMDb, Slater plays a character referred to only as “Isaac’s roommate” in the 11-minute-long short film about “A manny/aspiring comedian gets his ass kicked (literally and figuratively) but has fun anyway.”

Slater, once only known in Broadway circles, became more of a household name last July when he was first spotted with Ariana Grande. The two met while filming the upcoming Wicked film and began dating shortly after Grande separated from her husband, Dalton Gomez. Slater was also previously married to his high school sweetheart Lilly Jay, whom the public learned he had separated from when news of his relationship with Grande dropped.
