It's an Y tu mamá también reunion and we love to see it!
Two of our favorite actors, Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal, are reuniting for a new show called La Máquina on Hulu, and have dressed up like another one of our all-time favorite duos as a part of the promo!
Early in their careers, Bernal and Luna starred in Alfonso Cuarón's seminal coming-of-age movie Y tu mamá también, where they played two Mexican teen best friends who go on a road trip with an older woman and end up having a threesome with her. Ever since then, they've been beloved in the queer and cinephile communities.
As part of the press tour for the series, and to make their reunion even better, the two dressed up as another legendary duo: Bert and Ernie from Sesame Street! The two muppets were even there to pose with them!
Of course, Bert and Ernie have also been speculated to be a couple since their early days, and one Sesame Street writer even revealed he even wrote the characters to be that way.
"I remember one time that a column from The San Francisco Chronicle, a preschooler in the city turned to mom and asked 'Are Bert & Ernie lovers?' And that, coming from a preschooler was fun,"writer Mark Saltzman said in a 2018 interview. "And that got passed around, and everyone had their chuckle and went back to it. And I always felt that without a huge agenda, when I was writing Bert and Ernie, they were. I didn't have any other way to contextualize them. The other thing was, more than one person referred to Arnie & I as 'Bert and Ernie.'" (Arnie was Arnold Glassman, Saltzman's partner.)
La Máquinafollows boxer Estaban "La Máquina" Osuna (Bernal), an aging fighter who suffers a devastating loss.
"Lucky for him, his manager and best friend Andy Lujan (Luna) is determined to get him back on top," the synopsis reads. "But when a nefarious organization rears its head, the stakes of this rematch become life or death. While struggling to mount a comeback, Esteban must also juggle his own personal demons to protect his family, including his ex-wife Irasema (Eiza González), a journalist who finds herself on a collision course with the dark side of the boxing world."
La Máquina is now streaming on Hulu.
