10 Gay Actors Who Would Be Perfect For James Gunn's 'Superman' Movie
Why shouldn't the new Superman be played by a gay actor?
With James Gunn’s new take on Superman coming up, it's a chance to get to know the character in a whole new way and see him with a fresh face.
According to Gunn, casting hasn’t come close to beginning, but eventually, we’re going to need a new Superman. Why can’t that new Superman be a gay actor?
“Superman: Legacy tells the story of Superman's journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas,” the official plot synopsis reads. “He is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American Way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”
The description for the film seems to imply that it will be focusing on a younger Clark – not the 40-something we’ve come to know and love. However, we also know that casting will not be limited to actors in their twenties, as revealed by Gunn himself.
Still, it seems he’ll be under 35, something we tried to keep in mind for this list. Here are 10 gay and queer actors who we think would look great in that red and blue spandex.
Brandon Flynn
Flynn, known for his roles in 13 Reasons Why, Ratched, and Hellraiser, is only 29 and has the perfect jaw to play a young Clark Kent.
Colton Haynes
If James Gunn wants to find a Superman who’s already got the perfect body for the role, he should look no further than Colton Haynes. The Arrow and Teen Wolf star is a total stud and already knows how to play a comic book character.
Jeremy Pope
Jeremy Pope should be one of the biggest stars in the world. Put him in anything and it will be great. Just imagine what The Inspection star could bring to the DCEU.
Joel Kim Booster
Is there anyone more handsome than Joel Kim Booster? The Fire Island star has the perfect look for someone who’s both the mild-mannered and charming Clark Kent and the beefcake Superman.
Jonathan Bailey
Bailey is an obvious choice. He’s a huge star, he’s a total hunk, and he can play the hero. The Bridgerton and Wicked star is gaining lead roles left and right, so Gunn better snatch him up before he’s too busy.
Lukas Gage
Why not take one of TV’s hottest actors and turn him into one of the biggest characters in all of movies? Gage has been great in every role we’ve seen him in and we’d love to see him take a chance at a big superhero movie like this.
Nico Tortorella
A nonbinary genderfluid Superman? Yes, please! Tortorella has starred in Scream 4 and The Walking Dead: World Beyond and would make a terrific Man of Steel.
Ronen Rubinstein
Rubinstein definitely has the arms, abs, and boy-next-door charm to play Clark Kent and Superman, and as a paramedic and firefighter on 9-1-1: Lone Star, he’s used to rescuing people. Also, it would be great to see a Jewish Superman, after the original hero was created by two Jewish men, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, as a symbol of strength against the growing rise of nazism and antisemitism.
Rafael Silva
Rubinstein’s co-star and love interest on 9-1-1: Lone Star would also make the perfect Superman. Just imagine how good he’d look in a cape! Again, with his experience playing a first responder, Silva knows how to play a hero.
Tyler Posey
Posey sure has the looks to play Superman, and he has experience playing a superhero (at least voicing one – Inferno in the Marvel Rising series). This would be one sexy Superman, and we wouldn’t complain.
